School of Theology

While Mount St. Mary’s Seminary focuses on the formation of candidates for priesthood and the permanent diaconate, the School of Theology engages other committed individuals who similarly desire to grow in their love of the Lord and their participation in the life of the Church.

The School of Theology exists to proclaim Jesus Christ “the way, and the truth, and the life” (Jn. 14:6), and to enable men and women to embrace, in their particular state and call in life, a “greater knowledge of truth so that their lives may be ever more human” (St. John Paul II, Fides et Ratio 3).

Cognizant of the Church’s vocation as the “universal Sacrament of salvation” (Second Vatican Council, Lumen Gentium 48), the School of Theology aims to provide its students with the resources needed to go into the vineyard of the Lord (Mt. 20:7) and be an active part in the Church’s mission of salvation (cf. St. John Paul II, Christifideles Laici 3).

Therefore, the School of Theology is full of opportunities for laypeople of all backgrounds and interests. Our academic programs, supported by a world-class faculty, proclaim the truth, beauty and goodness of the Catholic Faith with authentic orthodoxy. And our Lay Ecclesial Formation tracks, designed for men and women who desire to serve the Church as lay ministers, equip students with the skills and wisdom for authentic human flourishing.

Whether you are interested in rigorous intellectual studies, formation for lay ministry or are just exploring topics of personal interest, your journey begins here.
