February 24: From the Local to the Global: How the 19th Century Built a Worldwide Catholic Faith by Dr. John McGreevy
Dr. John McGreevy, author, American historian and the Francis A. McAnaney Professor of History at the University of Notre Dame, will speak on February 24 at 7:30 pm at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology (MTSM). Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, this lecture will be conducted virtually and will be available via www.athenaeum.edu/live.
Dr. McGreevy’s lecture, “From the Local to the Global: How the 19th Century Built a Worldwide Catholic Faith,” will focus on the growth of Catholicism in the 1800s. Part of the growth began in Cincinnati as new patterns of how Catholics understood their church and the world around them became more evident. Drawing on the research for his upcoming book, Catholicism: A Global History from the French Revolution to Pope Francis, Dr. McGreevy will connect local events to the wider Catholic world.
