New Certificate Programs Announced at MTSM
11.18.20Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology (MTSM) recently announced the development of two new Certificate programs in its School of Theology.
The Certificate in Catholic Theology consists of two years of course work designed to introduce students to the scriptural and theological foundations of the Catholic faith. The Graduate Certificate in Catholic Theology offers similar course work at a more advanced level and can help prepare students for later pursuit of a full master’s degree.
“Over the past few years individuals have expressed a desire to enrich their understanding of Catholic theology but are not necessarily looking to minister in a parish – something that could be accomplished through our Lay Ecclesial Formation program – or invest time in a full master’s degree program,” said Rev. Ryan Ruiz, Dean of the School of Theology at MTSM. “We are excited to offer both the new Certificate in Catholic Theology and the new Graduate Certificate in Catholic Theology to help individuals deepen their knowledge and love of the Lord and the Church.”
In addition to the new Certificate and Graduate Certificate in Catholic Theology, the School of Theology also offers academic Master of Arts degrees in Theology, Biblical Studies and Catholic Studies. MTSM also offers a professional Master of Arts degree in Pastoral Ministry and both a Certificate and Graduate Certificate in Pastoral Ministry through the Lay Ecclesial Formation program.
“As we continue to balance the health and safety of our students and seminarians as well as offer more flexibility to our certificate and degree programs, we are providing learning opportunities for those interested in taking classes online,” explained Fr. Ruiz. “The Spring Semester will feature a few courses that can be taken either in person or online to better meet the needs of our students.”
Open registration at MTSM for the 2021 Spring Semester runs through December 11. Late registration continues until classes begin on January 4.
