October 4: 2023 Fall Lecture
Location: Bartlett Center - Mount St. Mary's Seminary & School of Theology

Dr. Kevin Vogt
Join Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology (MTSM) and the MTSM Sacred Music Institute (SMI) for the 2023 Fall Lecture, on Wednesday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. inside the Bartlett Center at MTSM.
The lecture will be given by Dr. Kevin Vogt, Adjunct Professor of Music at the University of Kansas and the Director of Music at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Parish in Leawood, Kansas. The title of the lecture is ‘The Embodiment of Harmony: A Theology of the Organ in Catholic Worship’.
Pope Benedict XVI asserts that “the pipe organ is the theological instrument par excellence.” Dr. Vogt will give an exposition of the organ as a symbol of Creation, the Divine Logos, the Holy Spirit, the Church, the Holy City, and the hosts of heaven, viewed through a Trinitarian prism of the Transcendentals, the Tria munera Christi, and classical “harmonia.”
In light of this inquiry, Dr. Vogt will suggest some implications for the use of the organ in liturgical worship, in catechesis, and in evangelization.
The 2023 Fall Lecture is open to the public and admission is free.
