Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidelity
03.15.17Nine seminarians declared both the Creed and the Oath in the preparation for reception of the Order of Deacon before the gathered community on March 14 in the Chapel of St. Gregory the Great.
The path to ordination to the priesthood is marked by different stages each with their own particular ceremony and rites.
Seminarians in first theology receive candidacy and the ministry of lector, in their second year they receive the ministry of acolyte and at the end of their third year, a few weeks before ordination to the diaconate, they make a public Profession of Faith and take the Oath of Fidelity to the Holy See and the Catholic Church.
At Mount St. Mary’s Seminary/The Athenaeum of Ohio this public declaration of faith takes place during Vespers when our seminarians declare both the Creed and the Oath before the gathered community, in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament, and sign the oath and profession on the Altar. On March 14, 2017 nine men took this final public step in the preparation for reception of the Order of Deacon.
