Seminarian Golf Outing
10.04.17On Saturday, September 16, 2017 the seminarians of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary of the West hosted their 29th annual golf outing. Four other seminaries took part in the weekend; Bishop Simon Bruté College Seminary (Indianapolis, IN), St. Mary’s Seminary (Cleveland, OH), St. Meinrad (Meinrad, IN), and the Pontifical College Josephinum (Columbus, OH). Golfers from the visiting seminaries began arriving on Friday evening and joined our seminarians in a social that included yard games, Cincinnati style chili, and pizza from the seminary’s brick pizza oven.
On Saturday, the day began with Mass at 8 AM in the St. Gregory the Great Chapel. Seventy-six golfers began the outing at 10 AM with a shotgun start at the Vineyard Golf Course in pursuit of the trophy including a team made up the Rector Fr. Benedict O’Cinnsealaigh, Vice-Rector Fr. Anthony Brausch, Board Member Mr. Gary Gruber and advancement committee member Tom Binzer. At the end of the day the Bishop Simon Bruté Buffaloes took home the winner’s trophy with a score of 63 followed closely by Fr. Benedict’s team with a score of 64. After the day of golf was finished, seminarians prayed evening prayer together and took part in a dinner that included door prizes. Many of the visiting seminaries departed after the dinner but some joined our seminary community for Mass and breakfast on Sunday morning.
Zach Cecil, Archdiocese of Cincinnati, III Theology said of the tournament “It was a great opportunity to build fraternity with seminarians from across the Midwest and to enjoy a round of golf. Even if I did shank every one of my drives.”
