Susan Renner Receives Excellence in Teaching Award
05.31.22Susan Renner, Director of English as a Second Language (ESL) Program, is the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award from Mount St. Mary’s Seminary & School of Theology (MTSM).
Each year MTSM recognizes one of its professors with the award to honor a faculty member who has made a significant contribution to learning and scholarship.
“Professor Renner is being recognized for her outstanding service to the seminarians — both the English as a Second Language students and the students she assists in learning Spanish,” shared Rev. David Endres, Dean of Mount St. Mary’s Seminary. “She wants to equip the seminarians to serve in whatever capacity they are called, including Spanish language ministry.”
Renner was selected based on feedback from colleagues and students. Her current courses include Pastoral Spanish I, II, III, and IV and Liturgical Spanish. Additionally, Renner provides interdisciplinary content-based instruction in English that assists ESL students in their academic course load and supports their development of academic English skills such as writing, grammar and vocabulary.
Renner joined the MTSM faculty in 2018. Before coming to the Seminary, Renner worked as an English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) teacher for 11 years at Great Oaks, instructing limited-English-proficient students from nations across the globe in English and the US culture. She received her Bachelor of Arts from Hanover College.
